This past weekend marked the debut of Comikaze Expo 2011 - Downtown LA’s first big attempt to take on San Diego Comic Con but unlike SDCC it left much to be desired. Sure it takes awhile for conventions to build momentum and all that but if I hadn’t purchased tickets a few months ago I would have thought that the Comikaze Expo was put together at the last minute. There was a pretty big turn out of fans but the problem was there just wasn’t a whole lot that interested me – No big vendors, no big companies that I saw besides Top Cow, the celebrities were C level at best, and there wasn’t a lot of cosplayers.

I really hope the owners of the convention made enough money to warrant doing it again next year because I would love to see Comikaze Expo grow. It’s in a great location and, as we know with E3, Downtown LA can certainly handle the influx of people. The weekend wasn’t a total loss though, I did get a few good cosplay pics while I was there.
